Emmanuel joined Agris from Amiran in Kenya in September 2020, where he had gained extensive experience in collecting, managing and presenting information. He is integral to the development and co-ordination of Agris’ data management systems.

Ercilia joined Maris Mozambique as an accountant in 2018 and is now credit controller at MMO Limitada. She has a BA(Hons) degree in Accountancy and Auditing from Pedagogic University and is in the final year of a Master’s degree in Professional Accountancy from the Apolitecnica University.

Assucena worked as an Administrator at Mozambique Managed Offices before moving to Maris Mozambique in 2016 to join the accounting team. She holds a Bachelor of Accounting Degree from the University of Sao Tomas.

Andres is in charge of our Agris hub in Southern Tanzania, which includes Wakulima Tea Company. Andres came to Maris with more than 30 years’ agricultural management experience across Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR MARIS, KENYA
Andrew co-founded Maris in 2009. He has spent his whole career in developing markets, firstly in mainland China in the early 90’s, having studied Mandarin Chinese at Renmin Daxue and having worked for Sino-British joint ventures in Beijing and Jinan. Following an extended period in operational roles within the humanitarian sector across Europe, Central Asia and Africa, he returned to the private sector working in early stage exploration projects in Angola. From 2008 – 2017 he was based in Maputo working for Maris, but home is now Nairobi, Kenya.
JOHANNES GUNNELL
COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR MARIS, KENYA
Johannes joined Maris in 2010 following seven years in global equities at UBS, with a particular focus on socially responsible investments. He was acting CFO for Maris and now sits in London as the Commercial Director, responsible for new investments, acquisitions and disposals across Maris’ companies. Johannes has an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford.

Andy is based in Tete where he manages our serviced accommodation village. Originally from South Africa, Andy is a qualified safari guide and has held numerous positions in operations, tourism and hospitality.

Richard has spent his career developing modern warehousing in emerging markets, moving to ALP from Raven Property Group, Russia. He took over as CEO in May 2019 and is leading the expansion of the business into our new site in Nairobi West and new markets. Richard is a chartered accountant and holds numerous construction qualifications that he has accumulated during his career build over 2 million square meters of industrial parks.

Abdul supports research and financial due diligence of investment opportunities, deal sourcing and fundraising. Prior to joining us in 2017, Abdul worked as an Equity Research Analyst for AIB Capital, a Kenyan stock brokerage and advisory business. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Strathmore University, and an Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business, awarded by the ACCA.

Ran came to Agris from Amiran Kenya, part of the Balton CP group, which supplies a broad range of agricultural inputs, irrigation systems and greenhouses. He has extensive experience in the agriculture sector in East Africa and strong links with market-leading Israeli companies and producers. He is a graduate of the Hebrew University in Israel.

Joyce joined Maris in 2022 as an ESG Data Analyst and manages E&S data for the group. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Planning and Management degree from Kenyatta University.

Sally was our first employee, joining Maris Kenya in 2012 with a Diploma in Business Administration, Public relations/Journalism. In addition to general administration Sally provides support for logistics and procurement.

HEAD OF RENEWABLES MARIS, KENYA
Harry joined Maris in 2012 and has spent the last ten years managing businesses in Kenya, Mozambique and South Sudan. Having started up two portfolio companies, Kaia Village and Equator Energy, he now heads up our renewables division from Nairobi. Prior to joining Maris, he worked for a hedge fund group in London, after gaining a law degree from Edinburgh University. He has Level 3 IMC certificates and an MBA with distinction from Warwick Business School.

Kasi became E&S Manager at Agris in June 2022. This was a natural move from her role as HR and Administration Manager at Evergreen Herbs. She is a trained Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, as well as a Certified Mediator.

GENERAL MANAGER EQUATOR MOBILITY, KENYA
Prior to joining Maris in 2021, Alex was a lithium battery engineer at Aceleron, and before that an Electric Vehicle Engineer at Roam (formerly Opibus). He leads Maris’ ventures in the electric mobility sector, which sits within the Renewables division. He Holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Kenyatta University in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and is a graduate member of Kenya’s Institution of Engineers, as well as the Engineers Board of Kenya.

Nasur joined META Group in 2017 as Spare Parts Manager with vast experience in the machinery dealership sector. He is currently taking on the role of General Manager Rwanda. Before joining META Group he worked with JCB and Komatsu dealers in Uganda.

Marc has been actively involved in the mining industry since 2005, specialising in gold, copper, nickel and cobalt projects and operations across Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, North & Central America and the DRC. As the former CEO of Dallaglio Investments, he successfully led the growth from operations at Eureka and Pickstone gold mines in Zimbabwe. Marc holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Stellenbosch University.

Ian is responsible for forestry management, silviculture, environmental and financial management of ETC and sister company GETC. He is also working with local farmers to develop outgrower schemes for alternative crops such as coffee, ground nuts, moringa and vanilla. He has 25 years’ experience in forestry and agribusiness across sub-Saharan Africa.

Alex is the Finance Director of Agris and co-ordinates the central finance functions of Maris Group, as well as providing support to our portfolio companies. Prior to joining us he read history at Oxford University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young UK.

Jacques has 24 years of experience and in-depth exposure to diverse mining operations across South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and the DRC. He has served at multinational companies and new ventures as manager, consultant and full-time senior resource. He has a Mine Managers Certificate of Competency, a Bachelor of Technology in Mining and Mineral Engineering, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics from the University of Johannesburg and North West University.

Robert heads our finance teams in Mozambique and Angola and was this year appointed Internal Audit Lead. He joined us in 2013 from Zimbabwe where he worked with Mimosa Platinum Mine and Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company (ZISCO Steel). Robert is a chartered accountant and an affiliate member of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors.

Thomas joined Evergreen Herbs in 2020 and has worked in the fresh produce sector since 1998. He has held senior management positions at several of Kenya’s largest horticulture and floriculture producers and exporters where he was responsible for the end-to-end development and management of operations. He began his career in the UK in a variety of commercial roles with TESCO Plc and Lidl International.

Phil Taylor oversees our Mozambican investment portfolio from the Maputo office. Originally from New Zealand, Phil joined Maris in 2011 after working in the public sector in New Zealand and the legal field in the UK. A fluent Portuguese speaker, Phil has significant frontier market experience in the real estate, telecoms and advertising sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from Victoria University, Wellington.

Hardish Joined META group in 2022 with 14 Years of Experience in the Construction and Concreting equipment sector. Hardish is sales and marketing professional in industries with experience in working for German multinational Schwing Stetter. During his tenure he has Managed Sales and Marketing Activities of the East, West, Southern African Countries. Well verse with key account management. Profound understanding of Indian and African culture and business practice through education, living and working experience. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering and Post Graduation in International Business Management from California State University, San Bernadino.

Charlie co-founded Maris in 2009 and is a Director of Maris Limited. He oversees the group from East Africa. Prior to establishing Maris, Charlie developed a successful portfolio of venture businesses in Afghanistan and East Africa. He worked for Societe General in its investment banking division in London after graduating from the University of Edinburgh.

GENERAL MANAGER MOZAMBIQUE MANAGED OFFICES (MMO), MOZAMBIQUE
Sany oversees MMO’s serviced offices, facilities management (FM) contracts and project management. She is an HSE practitioner and championed MMO’s ISO certification. Sany joined us in 2013 as an office manager and was assigned to GE’s FM contract as a Facilities Manager the following year. In 2017 she was promoted to GM. Previously she worked in real estate and mining in Portugal and Mozambique. Sany holds a diploma in Business Management.

Mike has close to twenty years of experience in the construction and agricultural sectors in both Uganda and South Sudan. Originally from England, Mike lives in Uganda where he heads META Plant and Equipment. He holds an MSc in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
