Since we founded ALP in 2016 it has grown to become the largest quality warehousing and logistics park business in Sub-Saharan Africa. ALP Nairobi north is Kenya’s first international standard logistics and distribution centre, with 47,000sqm of grade-A standard warehousing. It is the first in Africa to achieve World Bank EDGE building sustainability certification. Construction has begun on ALP Nairobi West, which has planning approval for a 100,000sqm logistics and distribution complex – the largest in East Africa.

In 2013, in partnership with managing director David May, Maris invested in a group of 32 mining blocks covering 5 mines, which had laid dormant since the 1980’s: Bee Mine, Bee Eater Mine, Pamela Mine, Commoner Mine and Welcome Back Mine. The largest mine, Commoner, produced over 4 tonnes of gold during its working lifetime. We have rehabilitated the infrastructure and an open pit mining operation has re-commenced.

EE provides a range of services for major oil & gas and engineering companies, including construction machinery rental, accommodation and catering.

Equator Mobility is an industry pioneer and one of the first Kenyan companies to go to market with an electric vehicle (EV). Equatoria Teak Company

ETC and sister company Green Environ Teak Company (50% ownership) are South Sudan’s leading sustainable plantations and Africa’s second largest teak grower with 2,200 ha of planted teak. ETC has recently expanded its operations to include coffee production through a large scale out-grower network, in partnership with FAO South Sudan, Hummingbird Action for Peace and Development, and ICCO Cooperation. We are in the process of expanding our planted area of teak to over 5,000 ha.

META Group is the exclusive distributor of JCB construction equipment in Angola, Tanzania, Zambia and Rwanda. The Group also represents other products such as Cummins, Fleetguard, Hyundai and Elgi.

Suma Hydro

The Suma  3,8 MW Hydro & Rural Electrification Project, currently under construction, is a joint venture between Rift Valley Energy, TATEPA and AgDevCo. It will be a run-of-river hydro power plant enabling the neighbouring tea industry to reduce reliance on costly and polluting back-up diesel generators. The main off-taker will be Tanzania’s National Utility with an opportunity to directly connect clusters of local rural housing and small businesses to the national grid main line.

Venice Mine Complex

Venice Mine Complex holds 106 mining blocks covering approximately 2,660 hectares. It has extensive underground and surface infrastructure and over 100 years of recorded production. Since acquiring Venice in 2015 we have embarked on a phased redevelopment of the main Venice mine and its satellites, including significant investment in new infrastructure. A Carbon in Leach tailings retreatment operation has commenced, to treat the 2.1 mil­lion tons of tailings material.

Wakulima Tea Company

Wakulima Tea Company is the tea business of leading Tanzanian plantation company TATEPA. It is Tanzania’s second largest tea producer and Maris’ biggest employer with over 1000 employees. We manage 308 ha of tea estates, but source the majority of our green leaf from a network of over 12,000 outgrower smallholder farmers, who own 30% of the business and are also provided with extensive technical, financial and community support.
