Gold

Our gold division operates in Kenya and Zimbabwe, with production set to rise sharply.

The success of any gold project depends on a mutually-beneficial relationship with our local communities and our strategy is guided by the highest international regulations, including the IFC Performance Standards on measuring, mitigating and reporting environmental and social impact.

Maris mines have hubs for technical training and have brought roads, water, power, clinics and schools to their local areas.

We specialise in turning around high-grade, stranded gold assets, which have high-profit potential but are too small for larger gold companies.

Commoner Mine

80% ownership
Zimbabwe

In 2013, in partnership with managing director David May, Maris invested in a group of 32 mining blocks covering 5 mines, which had laid dormant since the 1980’s: Bee Mine, Bee Eater Mine, Pamela Mine, Commoner Mine and Welcome Back Mine. The largest mine, Commoner, produced over 4 tonnes of gold during its working lifetime. We have rehabilitated the infrastructure and an open pit mining operation has re-commenced.

Venice Mine Complex holds 106 mining blocks covering approximately 2,660 hectares. It has extensive underground and surface infrastructure and over 100 years of recorded production. Since acquiring Venice in 2015 we have embarked on a phased redevelopment of the main Venice mine and its satellites, including significant investment in new infrastructure.
